29th January 2018 Santorini Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean sea. The island of Santorini was ruined due to a volcanic eruption in around the 16th century BC. This volcanic eruption has now given the shape to the island of a rugged landscape. Facts about Santorini: Before the name Santorini was given to the Greek island it was known as Kallístē which means "the most beautiful one." Santorini is one of the only islands in the world where you can visit red, white and black sand beaches. Theses different coloured beaches are due to the volcanic eruption in the 16th century. The building in the island of Santorini are typically Greek. There is very little rain in Santorini. On the island there are more churches than houses.  Roughly only 15,000 people live on the island but around 1.5million people visit Santorinin every year.
